Following the closure of the local Post Office in Hammerwich several years ago, a number of alternatives have been explored to bring the valuable services back to the village.
A fully comprehensive service is available from the van, except road tax and passports, with a good selection of greeting cards and stationery included.
Starting this month, the mobile Post Office will visit the village, opening in the Community Hall every Friday between 11.45 and 12.15. (Except 3rd June, Jubilee celebration)
Recently returned Chairman of Hammerwich Parish Council, Vance Wasdell, commented:
A great number of alternatives have been explored, but as the village does not have the population to generate enough turnover for a full time Post Office, the mobile service comes as something of a lifeline, particularly for our pensioners.
Even though the service is minimal, residents are pleased they will be saved a journey into town with all that that entails.
Unfortunately our post box was stolen recently, but I can assure parishioners the process to replace it is in hand.
